About the band

It all began at The Bondi Hotel, Sydney. It was a balmy night, locals, tourists and backpackers milled about the room, waiting for Cherie to play her set, solo. As Cherie welcomed the packed room, heads quickly turned to listen to this voice of happiness. As she played her first song, people from the backroom stood up to determine where this voice was coming from, and the entire audience was transfixed. Her songs of sadness were delivered with an incredible twist of happiness, you just had to smile and be happy.

On that night, Josh Oshlack was in the audience, a humble bass player with percussion tendencies. They met after the show, got chatting, got jamming and realised the strong musical connection that existed between them.

Grant Colquhoun comes from a heavy rock background, so his drumming approach brings a solid intensity to Cherie's acoustic guitar and matches perfectly with Josh's bass style. His smooth and precise drumming give Three Quarters Hazel that final dash of spice that make people rise to their feet and always ask for more.

All band members work with children. Grant is a primary school teacher in Sydney while Josh and Cherie run music workshops for children with special needs.

For the past 6 years, Three Quarters Hazel has been performing consistently throughout Australia. They are regular performers along the east coast of Australia and are asked back year after year.

Disc info

In 2006, they released their first CD 'Three Quarters Hazel – Live at The Basement'. This album captures the live essence of their music that engages audiences, no matter what age or musical preference.

In 2011, Three Quarters Hazel will release an anticipated studio EP titled 'Stick 'em Up'. This is their first studio album with no 'fillers' and is set to hit the radio airways.

"We all can make a difference in this world and one way we do that is through our music. We are blessed with our lives and we want to share our music with everyone", said Cherie.
